ABUJA, (CAJ News) – A SUICIDE bombing, lynching of travelers and a fatal explosion have left scores dead in Nigeria in recent days.
The government has expressed outrage at these incidents that occurred in the states of Borno, Plateau and Kano respectively.
The attack that claimed at least 12 people in northeast Borno is blamed on Boko Haram, an lslamist group that has sown terror in the region since 2009.
President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent support to survivors.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the Government and people of Borno State,” he said.
“I also urge our security forces to intensify efforts to hunt down and rout the remnants of Boko Haram and crush their ability to inflict harm on soft targets as a diversionary tactic.”
Tinubu also condemned the murder of 12 wedding guests in the northern Plateau.
He has directed the Nigerian Police Force to work with relevant security and intelligence agencies to ensure those responsible were swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
“These killings must not go unanswered,” the president said.
Tinubu sympathised with the families affected by the explosion at a scrap metal facility in northern Kano, where five lives were lost.
“This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for stricter adherence to workplace safety protocols,” he said.
The president has directed relevant agencies to investigate the cause and take appropriate actions to prevent a recurrence.
“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God continue to protect the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Africa’s largest nation, estimated at 234 million people, is at times the most volatile in the continent.
Mid-June, a conflict blamed on tensions between subsistence farmers and livestock herders in the northern-central state of Benue left over 200 people dead.
