KHARTOUM, (CAJ News) – A SEVERE heatwave has left at least 24 people dead in Sudan.
The deaths are the aftermath of temperatures reaching up to 47°C.
The heatwave has been impacting Port Sudan, in the northeastern Red Sea State.
Humanitarian organisations have documented 155 cases of heatstroke due to the extreme temperatures.
“For the next 48 hours, no rain is expected, and temperatures are forecast to reach 43,3°C,” a humanitarian spokesperson said.
Sudan is enduring a civil war that has forced millions out of the country to seek refuge.
The conflict has exacerbated a hunger crisis.
