LUSAKA, (CAJ News) – A DELEGATION of Chinese executives has expressed interest in investing in a number of key sectors of the Zambian economy.
President Hakainde Hichilema hosted the delegation on Wednesday.
Han Jing, China ambassador to Zambia, also attended the meeting at the State House.
They discussed a wide range of available investment opportunities in the Southern African country.
Hichilema said this indicated his state visit to China last year had continued yielding positive results in terms of opening up Zambia for more investment and business opportunities that would create jobs for citizens, particularly the youth.
“They (entrepreneurs) expressed interest in investing in agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, health, among the key sectors, through joint ventures with our citizens,” he said.
Zambia is eager to diversify its economy from copper mining. After a bumper harvest, it has resumed grain exports.
“We called on them (Chinese delegations) to quickly actualise their investment projects as we now have an enabling environment for investment and business opportunities,” Hichilema said.
The Sino-Zambia relations date back to 1964.
