JUBA,(CAJ News) – SOUTH Sudan is to erect some telecommunication towers in the northwestern state of Warrap to boost the security of citizens and enhance businesses.
Michael Makuei Lueth, Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, has pledged this upon receiving a detailed report from the governor of Warrap, Bol Wek Agoth on the state of affairs in the Greater Warrap.
The minister did not disclose the number of towers that will be erected in this state, which is located in the Bahr el Ghazal region.
“There are no roads, no communication and no businesses, making life hard for the people of Warrap state,” Agoth said.
Lueth responded, “Very soon, I will provide the National Ministry with list of Warrap priorities on information and communication, to help address telecommunication gaps and prepare Warrap for the upcoming general elections.”
He also pledged his ministry would provide on-job training in order to strengthen the state media and other community media in Warrap.
South Sudan is resuscitating the telecommunications sector, which has not been spared by years of intermittent conflict.
The East African country, the world’s newest, plunged into a civil war in 2013, two years after attaining independence.
A transitional government led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit has struggled to maintain stability.
