JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – ALONE! Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, addressed empty chairs at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 26 September 2025.
Actions spoke louder than words. The walkout before and during his UNGA speech sent the last message, that the world is facing genocide and nobody supported Israel and the United States on this matter.
‘And he (Benjamin Netanyahu) understood that’, said Donald Trump. ‘Israel cannot fight the world’.
It also means the United States cannot fight the world. The war in Gaza was supported and fuelled by the United States, a country which supplies funding, weapons and political support to Israel.
The whole world revolted. Although the nuts of the recent ceasefire negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt are not bolted, there is hope that the killing and destruction of Gaza will come to an end.
Donald Trump noticed that his continued support for Israel backfired. https://www.google.com/search?q=empty+chais+walkout+of+Netanyahu+at+United+nations&rl
The Gaza saga started with the horror attack by al-Qassam Brigade of Hamas on Israelis at the Nova Music Festival on 7 October 2023 and the abduction of 251 hostages.
According to the Israeli government (American Jewish Committee, 14 January 2025), 138 of the hostages have foreign passports, including 54 Thais, 15 Argentinians, 12 Germans, 12 Americans, 6 French, 6 Russians, 1 Chinese, 1 Sri Lankan, 2 Tanzanians and 2 Philippians.
What followed was the reprisal of wanton destruction of Gaza by Israel. The destruction of Gaza did not paint a picture of trying to save the lives of the hostages, but a chance to inflict pain on Palestinians.
Some say Israel was more interested in Israeli citizens and monitored their release, while the other races were relegated.
Even if Hamas took political responsibility, it was the al-Qassam brigades which committed the crime. A brigade is an identifiable unit.
It would have been possible to pinpoint the revenge to members of that unit.
The revolt against Israel by the world was not to deny Israel of the right to self-defence.
The world is against the genocidal approach, the collective killing of ordinary unarmed Palestinians. Many journalists died and Israel banned some journalists from reporting from Israel.
Those journalists who braved death to report what was going on in Gaza must be applauded, even post-humus.
South Africa is facing the wrath of US lawmakers in the U.S – South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025 for approaching the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Every pen, every speech, every mouth which spoke, every demonstration, and diplomatic effort finally sank home, that Israel cannot fight the world.
Benjamin Netnyahu was addressing empty chairs. Many world leaders had spoken against air and drone strikes, bombs, starvation, blockage, mass displacement and colonial occupation of Palestinians.
The American President, Donald Trump, was the only person Israel could listen to. It is the US providing backup air, naval and military support.
Indeed, when Donald Trump saw that the US and Israel are isolated, he gave the order to Israel to stop the war.
Donld Trump also noted that, after so much Israel bombardment of Gaza, Israel has not gained ground. Hamas was still there, and the hostages had not been released. This means, it is not the size of your army, but the size of your argument, which counts.
The lesson for Africa is that Africa should stick together and speak with one voice. Asia must speak with one voice.
The world must speak with one voice on issues of justice and equality. For the first time Europe fractured because they could not defend blatant genocide before them.
It also means war is a product of unattended issues. The sooner issues are brought for negotiations the better. The Palestinian question had been on the UN Agenda from 1948, at the onset of the Israeli state.
There are several UN resolutions culminating in the two-state solution. If this was attended to this Hamas and Israeli war would not have occurred.
It is the same argument with Ukraine. Guns alone will not produce peace. Instead of fuelling the war, world leaders must bring the matter to the negotiating table.
