HARARE, (CAJ News) – SCOTTLAND Football Club has etched itself into history by winning the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League in its first season in the topflight.
They are the second team to attain that feat, in 41 years, after the army side, Black Rhinos.
Owned by businessman and ruling party legislator, Pedzisayi “Scott” Sakupwanya, “Mabviravira” were only formed in 2023.
They made their way to the Premiership after winning the regional first division last season.
Manager Tonderayi Ndiraya and his lads wrapped the title on Sunday at Ascot Stadium in Gweru, Midlands with a 5-1 win at relegated Kwekwe United.
Scottland have accumulated an assailable 65 points in the 18-team league and Ndiraya has made it back-to-back titles having won the league with Simba Bhora.
It is the latest of a number of well-financed teams to disrupt the traditional powerhouse trio of record champions Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United.
The three have spent the entire season battling relegation in a league that relegates four sides at the end of the campaign.
Ndiraya, a former Dynamos player, has seen his stock rise and is tipped as a prospect as manager for the senior men’s national team.
Besides Scottland, unfancied outfits such as dethroned champions, Simba Bhora, Ngezi Platinum and MWOS have been contenders until Sunday.
