JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – HUAWEI has pledged to work closely with its partners in the new era of solar.

This is anticipated to create a low carbon society.

Officials made the pledge at the recent Huawei Fusion Solar Forum and Partner Summit 2024, held in Johannesburg under the theme, “Open a New Era of Solar.”

Xia Hesheng, president of Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa, opened the summit that attracted nearly 300 partners and customer representatives from more than 10 countries in the region.

He spoke about how carbon neutrality and intelligence will lead humanity into an era of ecological civilisation.

“With the continuous improvement of photovoltaic generation efficiency and lower prices,” Hesheng said.

“The era of ‘PV+ Storage parity’ is coming, and PV + energy storage will become the most economical and universal form of power.”

Huawei looks to fully leverage the convergence advantages of digital and power electronics technologies in three scenarios: Utility, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) as well as Residential.

It has pledged to establish a partnership system based on “trust, profit, simplicity and growth.”

Zhang Zhimin, channel director of Huawei’s Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa Region shared Huawei’s Digital Power Channel Policy for 2024 and launched the Southern Africa Digital Power new enablement plan.

With this plan, Huawei aims to lift its partners’ capabilities and upgrade incentive systems.

Nick Lusson, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power East Africa, pointed out that Huawei had launched the “optimizer + PV + ESS + charger + load + PVMS.”

These are Photovoltaic, Energy Storing Solutions and Smart PV Plant Management System.

“In South Africa, with severe load shedding and other countries with high electricity prices, Huawei uses the full-scenario micro-grid solution to bring more accessible power consumption, and a more proactive security experience to end customers,” Lusson said.

Meanwhile, Huawei released new smart PV products and solutions for C&I and residential scenarios.

It launched 150KW string inverters, SUN5000/2000-150K-MG0.

Power-M is a mainstream PV and energy storage solution while Luna 2.0 is a premium solution.

The S1 model is a new residential energy storage product.

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIA has heaved a sigh of relief following the rescue of 137 students that had been kidnapped over two weeks ago.

They are among 300 scholars that had been abducted by bandits from the Kuriga school in the northwestern Kaduna State.

The military has rescued them in the state of Zamfara, also in the northwest, according to military spokesman, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba.

“Efforts would continue until other hostages are found and the terrorists arrested, tried, and brought to justice by Nigerian law,” Buba stated.

Last Thursday troops rescued 16 pupils (Almajiris) that had been kidnapped from a Muslim school in the Sokoto state, also in the northwest.

President Bola Tinubu hailed the breakthrough by the military.

“This reemphasizes the importance of collaboration between the federal government and states for expected outcomes, especially on matters of security,” he said.

He commended the National Security Adviser, security agencies and the Kaduna State government for diligence in handling the situation.

“It is clear that incipient urgency, meticulous attention, and tireless dedication are critical to optimal outcomes in cases of mass abductions,” Tinubu added.

He also commended all the parties involved in the rescue of the pupils in Sokoto.

“I once again assure Nigerians that my administration is deploying detailed strategies to ensure that our schools remain safe sanctuaries of learning, not lairs for wanton abductions.”

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), also welcomed the rescue of the pupils.

“While we celebrate this significant victory, we must however remain more vigilant and resolute in our efforts to prevent such atrocities from occurring again,” Obo Okafor, AANI president, said.

“Consequently, AANI urges the government at all levels, and security agencies to implement the Safe School Initiative and robust measures aimed at fortifying our schools and communities against the scourge of banditry, kidnapping and other criminalities.”

Armed bandits are running rampant in the West African country, the largest by population, estimated at over 220 million.

Last Thursday, suspected bandits attacked a busy market in the village of Madaka in the north-central Niger State, killing at least 21 people. Preliminary reports indicate an unknown number of individuals were also kidnapped during the incident.

Schools are seen as soft targets because of lack of security.

Before the recent spate of kidnappings by bandits, this crime was synonymous with Islamist groups, mainly the Boko Haram.

SA’s Kruger park reports increases in animal poisoning

JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH Africa’s Kruger National Park (KNP), a well-known African safari destination, said Friday that there are increasing animals in the park poisoned by suspected poachers.

Some unknown people have poisoned water in the park or put poisoned meat, which has resulted in the deaths of various species, Richard Sowry, a ranger with the KNP, told Xinhua.

“Some poisoned water has killed insects, birds, hawks, eagles, vultures, buffalos, elephants and other animals. Any animal which feeds on the carcasses dies and we burn all of them after that,” said Sowry, who noted that more than 2,000 vultures have been poisoned at the park.

“People living next to the park should know the value of the animals in the park and benefit from it so that they can protect them. We have engaged the people on many occasions to help us conserve the fauna and wildlife,” he said.

Sowry added that they are trying to beef up the security in the KNP by using helicopters and dogs with global positioning systems on their necks to track poachers.
