JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) MOBILE network operator, MTN, and technology powerhouse, Huawei, are leading nominations for the AfricaCom Awards.

Top honours will be revealed on November 13 in Cape Town.

The awards are a highly-respected extension of AfricaCom, the world’s largest Africa-focused technology, telecommunications and media event.

AfricaCom will take place in the coastal city on November 12 – 14.

There are 12 categories, with MTN and Huawei jointly nominated in some.

MTN is nominated six times. Huawei is nominated seven times.

At individual level, MTN Group Chief Technology Officer, Charles Molapisi, is nominated for the CXO (Chief Experience Officer) of the Year accolade.

‘Secret Garden’ is the theme for this year’s awards ceremony, marking the juxtaposition between the natural and digital worlds.

AfricaCom 2019 will bring together 15 000 attendees, 450 speakers and 500 exhibitors showcasing technologies and solutions covering everything from fifth generation networks (5G), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), finance technology and Blockchain.

The event will be held under the theme, “Accelerating Business Transformation to Strengthen African Economies.”
