The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) offers a convenient online booking system called the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS). This system allows you to schedule appointments for various services, including:

  • Applying for:
    • ID documents
    • Passports
  • Collecting:
    • Birth certificates
    • ID cards
    • Passports
    • Marriage certificates

Pre-booked clients receive priority service at dedicated counters. Remember, booking is mandatory for collecting any document you’ve applied for. Additionally, BABS allows you to cancel or reschedule appointments for your convenience.




The system only allows clients with valid South African ID numbers to make bookings.

Department of DHA Home Affairs Branch Appointment Booking System Process

To book an appointment, visit www.dha.gov.za and click on BABS.  To book an appointment, follow the following process:

  1. Open DHA eHomeAffairs Booking Appointment Portal 
  2. Enter your ID Number and click next:

    Users are asked to enter their other personal details, including:

    • Full name and surname;

    • Cell phone number;

    • Email address (optional)”

  3. Select A Booking Slot
