GABORONE, (CAJ News) BOTSWANA is making the most of a recent visit by one of the most prominent entertainers to grow its tourism and entertainment industries as well as creating employment opportunities for youths.

It is anticipated such programmers would help diversify the economy, which presently is heavily reliant on mining, particularly diamonds.

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi invited Steve Harvey as part of his ongoing initiatives to attract world-renowned international investors to explore opportunities for the youth of Botswana to participate in business.

“I am serious about transforming our economy towards a knowledge-based economy and we will need a lot of our people to dream and be creative,” Masisi said following Harvey’s visit.

“On my part, I will bring those that are already advanced in the industry and remove any barriers that stop you from succeeding. I intend for us to increase our investment in the creative sector, build more performance spaces and free up licensing spaces for various media enterprises,” he pledged.

On his part, Harvey pledged to work with top Hollywood producers to train local creatives on content creation for the global market.

The entertainer and talk show host promised to move some of his production to Botswana and create employment for locals.

Such a move is expected before the end of the year.

Harvey also promised to immediately start working with social media content creators from the Southern African country.

He has already asked young people in this space to submit their creatives for consideration since he has jobs lined already.

“I am also happy that merely having Steve Harvey in the country is a huge boost for our tourism as he draws quite some attention from across the globe,” Masisi stated.

He thanked Harvey for his keen interest in the country and its development.

“I also thank the youth and all who supported this visit,” Masisi commended.

Harvey expressed support to the president’s vision towards creating employment for the teeming youths.

“My goal is to uplift the youths. I want to show Batswana how to elevate,” Harvey added.

He added, “I am here to work on the vision that the President sold to me.”

Harvey is a successful comedian, television host, producer, radio personality, actor, and author.
