JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – METROFILE Cloud, a leader in cloud solutions for the modern enterprise, proudly introduces its innovative storage product, Cloud Vault (Simple Storage Service (S3)), aimed at revolutionising archival storage by bringing an affordable and locally priced petabyte storage solution to South Africa.

The new product is a testament to Metrofile Cloud’s commitment to innovation, embodying a significant leap in data management technologies with unrivalled scalability and durability.

“Our S3 Service is designed with versatility at its core, allowing storage of any amount of data from a few gigabytes to petabytes, for both small-scale projects and expansive enterprise operations,” says Steve Porter, Managing Director of Metrofile Cloud. “Our ultimate aim is to offer an approachable, scalable, and highly secure solution to businesses, irrespective of their size or storage necessities.”

In addition to its unmatched scalability, Metrofile Cloud S3 features a user-friendly web interface complemented by an extensive API set, enabling seamless integration with numerous services, such as hosting, disaster recovery, and backup solutions. Automated data management tasks included in the service enable users to efficiently define lifecycle policies for their data.

Cloud Vault stands out for its cost-effectiveness. It offers highly flexible, competitive pricing options that optimises costs based on usage, all while eliminating data egress or ingress fees.

With the launch of its Simple Storage Service, Metrofile not only substantiates its industry leadership in information governance and management but also continues to promise top-tier, secure, and innovative solutions to clients.

Powered by Tsolo Storage Systems (Pty) Ltd, our technical provider, renowned for its technical expertise, we have developed this service, and we aim to make the S3, Cloud Vault, a vital data storage resource for businesses across South Africa, aligning with our continuous efforts in innovation and secure solutions.

“The partnership with Metrofile provides an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate our technology alongside one of the most trusted brands in the storage space. Our drive to maximise local content in all our offerings, including in-house manufacturing, is one of the key enablers of this new service,” says Simon Ratcliffe from Tsolo.

Comprehensive

Simple Storage Service (S3), used by Cloud Vault, provides developers and IT teams with secure, durable, highly scalable object storage and can handle virtually any workload, from a few gigabytes to petabytes (PB) of data, and handle thousands of requests per second, making it suitable for both small-scale projects and enterprise-level applications. It is managed by a simple and intuitive web interface as well as a comprehensive set of APIs.

While similar offerings are already available from international competitors, Metrofile Cloud’s partnership with Tsolo means that it holds the distinction of being the first South African company to venture into this space.

“No one else in the country is doing this locally. Due to the Rand’s volatility, most companies do not store this old data, they discard it because it gets too expensive. However, at this price, you can now place it in reliable and affordable storage, and we keep three copies of it. Importantly, you are using a local company and ensuring your price stays firm and is not victim to the dollar,” explains Steve Porter, Managing Director of Metrofile Cloud.

Alternative

Having successfully deployed the first version of this product as a 1PB on-premise solution for a leading South African organisation, Tsolo has demonstrated the market viability of this cost-effective alternative to traditional cloud storage providers.

“We have to get behind trusted and reputable South African businesses, and this is 80% cheaper than the big three Public Cloud providers with no exchange rate influence and no hidden costs,” adds Porter. “With Metrofile Cloud, there are no egress or ingress costs. Egress costs are the network fees most cloud providers charge to move your data out of the cloud, while most allow you to move your data into the cloud for free, known as ingress.”

The company is offering flexible pricing options, allowing users to optimise costs based on their actual usage patterns or select different storage classes with varying performance and cost characteristics.
