JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) VODACOM has spent R8 million (US$563 944) on solar-powered sites as part of its energy and carbon management strategy and commitment to reducing impact on the environment.

The facilities by the South African-based company have been installed in Bloemfontein, Polokwane and Vereeniging.

These sites are in addition to a solar project installed at a base station controller site in Randburg, Gauteng, in May last year.

Collectively, the three new sites will generate approximately 127 MWh of energy on an annual basis, which will help to reduce the telco’s carbon emissions and lower its electricity consumption.

“As the demand for digital services grows, we will need more energy to keep these services running,” said Takalani Netshitenzhe, Executive Director of External Affairs at Vodacom South Africa.

“In anticipation of this growth, and despite the current economic challenges, we are investing in strategies to decrease our energy consumption while reducing the use carbon intensive sources of energy,” Netshitenzhe said.

Netshitenzhe said by reducing carbon footprint, Vodacom’s aim was to mitigate climate change and its effects on the planet.

“Solar-powered sites are just one of the innovative ways to introduce cleaner, more sustainable energy sources to keep our mobile networks running and our customers connected in an ever increasing digital society,” the official said.

The solar projects are aligned with Vodacom’s purpose-led journey, in which the company has committed to improve the lives of 100 million people and reduce its environmental impact in half by 2025.

South Africa welcomes BRICS membership

President-Cyril-Ramaphosa-2021.jpg

by SAVIOUS KWINIKA
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) SOUTH African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has hailed the importance of the Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa (BRICS) bloc.

He said this was testament of the country’s foreign policy priorities.

These, he said, are regional political and economic integration, pursuing African development, multilateral engagement and the promotion of democracy, peace and human rights.

Ramaphosa made the sentiments on Monday, through his weekly letter.

He said joining the BRICS group of countries in 2010 was a milestone in the quest to advance national development priorities by forging stronger ties with the important emerging economies.

BRICS countries comprise 41 percent of the world’s population and account for around 24 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP) and some 16 percent of global trade.

“We have reaped the benefits of membership of this important bloc, most notably in the area of economic cooperation,” Ramaphosa stated.

“Bilateral trade has grown, particularly with China and India, with commodity exports and manufactured goods imports featuring strongly,” he said,

Ramaphsa said the BRICS countries continue to be important sources of foreign direct investment in key such as mining, automotive, transportation, clean energy, financial services and technology.

A 2018 review of South Afria’s BRICS membership by professional services firm Deloitte noted that BRICS partners “invested three times more capital in the country compared to the seven years prior to 2011”.

He said these investments and projects have in turn led to significant job creation.

Since the formation of the New Development Bank, whose regional office is located in Johannesburg, South Africa has been a beneficiary of financing and technical support for projects in transportation, clean energy, environmental protection, water infrastructure and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, South Africa has received $2 billion in funding from the bank under the COVID-19 Emergency Loan Programme to fight the pandemic and to support the country’s economic recovery.

“There has also been substantial cooperation with our BRICS partners in securing personal protective equipment and cooperation around vaccine access and distribution,” Ramaphosa stated.

Last week South Africa participated in the 13th BRICS Summit.

BRICS countries agreed to deepen cooperation to fight COVID-19 and mobilise the political support and financial resources needed to respond to future pandemic preparedness.

This includes the establishment of a virtual BRICS Vaccine Research and Development Centre and a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System to forecast future outbreaks of infectious diseases.

False prophets are on the prowl

True-Gospel-with-SAVIOUS-PARKER-KWINIKA.jpg

True Gospel with SAVIOUS-PARKER KWINIKA
MANY prophets shall rise. A majority of them will be fake. Their intentions are to mislead Jehovah’s children. This is for their selfish interests.

Matthew 24:11 of the NASB 1995 confirms this: “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many,” while the Contemporary English Version says: “Many false prophets will come and fool a lot of people.”

This is why believers are urged to test every spirit so that they do not fall victim or prey to these false prophets.

1 John 4:1 of the New International Version attests: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

As this True Gospel tries to unpack the difference between true and false prophets, I also pray humans, who have been misled, and many others still to be deceived by these bogus prophets, should receive knowledge and wisdom to discern who is a true and false prophet.

Ezekiel 13:9 of the New Living Translation reads: “I will raise my fist against all the prophets who see false visions and make lying predictions, and they will be banished from the community of Israel. I will blot their names from Israel’s record books, and they will never again set foot in their own land. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.”

The false prophets, who were condemned by prophet Ezekiel were equally castigated and rebuked by fearless prophet Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 23:16 of New International Version says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.”

TRUE PROPHETS
How does a true prophet differ from a false one? How does he speak? The words of a prophet can ring with righteous anger (just like Jeremiah) but not with hate.

The prophet of Jehovah must always condemn exploitation yet have compassion for sinners. This is where you witness the great difference between a true and false prophet.

If there is no love in the prophet’s voice, then that so-called prophet does not speak with the voice of Jehovah. A true prophet speaks only after listening and praying.

True prophets are usually seen by their fruits, which in many scenarios are associated with love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Galatians 5:22 of the Berean Study Bible says: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,” while the Contemporary English Version attests: “God’s Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful.”

The Bible is filled with stories of true prophets speaking tough words to belligerent audiences.

John the Baptist lost his head. The prophet Isaiah was sawed in two. The prophet Zechariah was stoned. It’s not always popular to tell the truth.

Apostle John proposed a test for all prophets: “By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God” (I John 4:2-3).

Brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, those who believe in this True Gospel, say amen!
