from SHELUZANI MAKHESE in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe
CHIREDZI, (CAJ News): FIRSTLY, I’m deeply excited to introduce this historic media voice to communities of Lowveld, which has not known own media voice since the dawn of independence in 1980.

It is with heartfelt humility to present to you the inaugural Lowveld Post edition of our weekly publication to serve the people of the region, mainly Chiredzi, Chikombedzi, Chisumbanje, Hippo Valley Estates, Mkwasine Estates, Save Conservancy, Triangle Limited, Sengwe and Tshovani communities, which include Mwenezi, among other neighbouring districts.

The Lowveld region grossly lagged behind in many ways in terms of development despite boasting diverse economic activities mainly agriculture, tourism and wildlife, which are a mainstay to the country’s economy.

The region also teems with the rich cultural heritage of the Shangaan/ VaTsonga people.

It is my view that a community without its own media voice is dead.

Having been born and bred from the town of Chiredzi, and hailing from Chikombedzi communal lands under Chief Sengwe, but now living in the Diaspora, I have found it necessary to give my own people their voice.

I urge all residents and dwellers of Lowveld to receive this light called Lowveld Post and fulfill your beloved region’s economic potential.

I hope all entrepreneurs, corporate, multinational companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and investors will explore opportunities when they read Lowveld Post’s weekly digital and hard copy.

There is a daily online news updates. With the advent of technology, Lowveld Post, as an integrated media will be a prime means of access to news.

As your trusted media voice, Lowveld Post, assures businesses, individuals and corporate a platform to communicate their messages to a wider group of people locally, regionally and internationally. Our media outlet will connect this region with the entire nation, Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, Africa and the rest of the world.

I am convinced investors from all over would flock to invest in Chiredzi, and the entire communities under chiefs Sengwe and Tshovani when they see such exciting people stories in Lowveld Post.

This historic development will ensure the Lowveld’s exposure to the entire globe. It is my strong belief the coming in of Lowveld Post publication will increase economic synergies, business partnerships, promote development, unity, peace, love and harmony. May I also assure enemies of progress will be exposed too.

The Lowveld Post will be a conduit to the challenges faced and successes attained in the region. It will be the eye, ears and voice for the above-mentioned economic sectors and mostly minority tribes in the region.

The publication seeks to unlock economic opportunities, which remain untapped due to lack of meaningful development.

It is our hope Lowveld Post will be fully embraced by all as it seeks to become a catalyst for economic development by promoting innovation, agriculture, tourism, wildlife, arts and culture of the minority whose voices yearn for recognition.

Economic development and promotion of the rich cultural heritage and the arts will in turn create employment.

Our vision is built on Credibility, Objectivity and Trust. While assuring all fair and objective media coverage, Lowveld Post would expose such vices as corruption that undermines development.

All other ills that hinder economic development and unity of the nation will not be spared.

Generally, Lowveld Post will play the primary role of educating, entertaining and informing.

Lastly, I would like to thank the Government, through the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC), for issuing us with a license.

We will complement government’s role to ensure meaningful development to its citizens regardless of tribe, race, colour or geographic location.

May I conclude by urging you all businesses and stakeholders make Lowveld Post your market place where various businesses are exposed through advertising, sales and marketing.

Iconic co.za leaps over 1 million registrations

ZA Central Registry

ZA Central Registry

by AKANI CHAUKE
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) THE iconic co.za, South Africa’s internet code top-level domain, has surpassed the 1,2 million registrations mark, coinciding with the ZA Central Registry (ZACR) celebrating its 31st anniversary.

ZACR administers co.za. Other domain names under it are web.za, org.za and net.za.

“We are proud to continue to diligently fulfill the trust bestowed upon us by the ICT industry including our invaluable Registrar and Reseller partners and the South African Internet community to look after South African domain names such as co.za,” said Lucky Masilela, ZACR Chief Executive Officer.

In 2014, ZACR added the .capetown, .joburg and .durban domains. They have notched up some 12 000 registrations.

Recognising that the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) will be a knowledge-based transformation, ZACR urged South Africa’s youth to register and secure their domain names as a way of owning their digital presence.

“Going forward, the youth must prioritise securing their individual online digital identities and this goes well beyond social media,” Masilela said.

ZACR’s subsidiary, Registry Africa, is also the administrator of the dotAfrica (.africa) geographic Top Level Domain (gTLD), which ZACR says is making an impact on Africa’s presence in cyberspace.

Rhino poaching syndicate smashed

Technology to spike rhino poaching in South Africa

Technology to spike rhino poaching

from WALTER MAFEKING in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe
CHIREDZI, (CAJ News) A CRACKDOWN against rampant poaching in the Save Valley Conservancy south-east of Zimbabwe has bust a five-man gang.

Two of the suspects have been arrested while their alleged accomplices remain at large but the net closing in on them as the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and National Parks and Wildlife intensify operations against the menace.

Josphat Muvezwa (aged 31) and Given Shumba (38) have since appeared before Chiredzi district magistrates, Geraldine Mutsoto, following their arrest at a roadblock in the Mkwasine Estate area.

Plans to escape the barricade proved futile.

They face charges of illegal possession of weapons and poaching after they were found in possession of an automatic assault rifle, 57 live ammunition and three knives following a search on their vehicle.

It is suspected they were heading towards Save Valley Conservancy game to hunt the endangered rhino species.

Authorities believe the men are behind the shooting of a rhino Senuko Range in March.

Their arrest comes on the heels of a man, Charles Nduna, for allegedly killing and dehorning a rhino earlier this year.

Rhino poaching remains a threat in Save Valley Conservancy.

According to Save the Rhino, at least 175 rhinos have been poached in Zimbabwe during the past five years.

Domestic trial for Al-Bashir resumes

Ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir

Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir

from RAJI BASHIR in Khartoum, Sudan
KHARTOUM, (CAJ News) AS his trial on corruption charges began on Sunday, calls are mounting for the former Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, to face justice for alleged crimes under international law.

These include genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes allegedly committed in Darfur while in power.

Al-Bashir, who was deposed from power four months ago following sustained protests against his 30-year rule, will be charged with possessing foreign currency, corruption and receiving gifts illegally.

In May, he was also charged with incitement and involvement in the killing of protesters.

Legal advocate, Joan Nyanyuki, pointed out that while this trial was a positive step towards accountability for some of his alleged crimes, he remains wanted for serious crimes allegedly committed against the Sudanese people.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant for his arrest to answer charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity but Sudan has insisted it would not hand him over.

Thousands of people were killed, maimed and tortured in Darfur.

“Omar al-Bashir has evaded justice for far too long as the victims of horrific crimes still wait for justice and reparations more than a decade since the ICC issued the first warrant for his arrest,” Nyanyuki said.

Nyanyuki said the country’s new leadership must urgently ratify the Rome Statute of the ICC, which the country signed in 2000.

Military leaders are edging closer to inking a long-awaited political agreement with the opposition coalition, to pave way for a new government.
