How to register as a work-seeker from Department of Labour (ESSA) database

Unemployed people can register as work-seekers at their nearest Department of Labour offices or the Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database.. This will enable employers to find them if they are looking for candidates for learnerships. Work seekers should be aware that the database is national; if they send their CV via email in a province, it will be accessible in all provinces once it is captured on the Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database.

How to register on the Department of Labour ESSA database

To register yourself on ESSA online, you will need to have an e-mail address.
  1. Go to www.labour.gov.za
  2. Go to online services and click on the “Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA)” hyperlink
  3.  Then you will be directed to the ESSA online page
  4.  On the ESSA page click on the “Register Individual” hyperlink
  5. Accept the terms and conditions and click the submit button
  6.  Click next
  7.  Fill in your personal ID number, surname, e-mail address in the text boxes provided
  8. A new system-generated password will be sent to your e-mail address. The system-generated password will include special characters such as @#$^%:
  9. Enter your own ID number at username and your system-generated password to login
