DURBAN, (CAJ News) – HAVING struggled for education at some point in her life, Miss South Africa, Natasha Joubert, does not want her peers to go through similar challenges.
Hence she expressed excitement about her upcoming project as the holder of the title.
“The project that I am busy with… the main focus will be education. I am working on bursaries,” Joubert disclosed.
She was speaking in an interview with CAJ News Africa in the coastal city of Durban, KwaZulu Natal.
The beauty queen said she would be collaborating with universities and companies to ensure the project was a success.
“I know how it feels to be in a position of not being able to study yet you want to,” she said.
When Joubert was 13 years old, her father lost his job at a bank.
Three years later, still unemployed, he passed away.
“When he lost his job we lost our family home as well,” she recalled.
“That was the phase in high school. It was a little more challenging.”
“There was some responsibility that came with it. I needed to provide for myself, need to be independent and provide for my mother,” she said.
She has the best memories of her primary school years nonetheless.
Joubert first entered Miss South Africa in 2020, when she finished as second runner-up.
Being so close to winning inspired her to give it another shot.
“So, coming back and winning it……it didn’t feel like it would become a reality,” she said.
“I feel blessed and honoured to be Miss South Africa. It carries a lot of weight and I understand this is a position that a young girl looks up to,” Joubert said.
By her confession she grew up as a “tomboy” and is a karate trainee, she has exceeded her own wildest imaginations!
